Program Overview

The Program for European Studies offers two study abroad options: A 16 week semester (which may be offered during the Fall or Spring depending on the year) and one 3  week May term. In addition to the regular university courses, students will take part  in local and regional excursions as well as multiple trips to Germany, Luxembourg, and Belgium.

Fall / Spring Semester Program

This is a comprehensive semester program which includes: university courses, language courses, cultural activities, multiple excursions and professional visits. Courses are taught in English by professors from Georgia State University and the University of Strasbourg.

Courses are held at the School of Management and the Institute for Policy and Political Studies both of which are located at the University of Strasbourg. Transcripts will be issued by Georgia State University. Credits are transferable upon prior approval by your university. Non-GSU students must apply to GSU as transient students in order to enroll in the program.


Maymester Program

Each May, Georgia State University offers undergraduate and graduate students a three week study abroad opportunity that focuses on policy, economics, and leadership within the European Union. Students travel to Strasbourg, Brussels and
Paris and visit the EU Council, NATO, the Court of Human Rights, OECD, and The Central European Bank as well as the American Chamber of Commerce. Lectures are provided by faculty from the University of Strasbourg. Speakers from the various EU and EU related organizations round out the teaching and learning component.

Excursions are planned for Brussels and Luxembourg, with all transfers and field trips to EU Parliament and other EU sites included as well as field trips to Heidelberg, boat tour on the Seine River in Paris, Visit to a German castle and the Square in Brussels. Course instruction is partially “built-in” to field trips. Nine-hour instruction schedule per week allows much free time to explore and discover the countries!

Students are permitted to complete their coursework in the form of papers and journals once they return home.
